How To Look After Your Gold Plated Silver Jewelry

Gold Philosophy pieces are 20ct gold plated silver, which consists of a layer of 20ct gold on top of silver.

Silver naturally tarnishes with exposure to air and the environment and gold plating will fade over time as it is a surface finish on silver, depending on its wear and the amount of care taken. We advise you follow the below instructions to care for your gold vermeil jewellery.

  • Gold plated jewelry should not to be worn when showering or exercising. Preventing it from getting wet and keeping it away from harsh chemicals, lotions and perfumes will ensure its lasting quality. Apply any scents and lotions before you put it on.

  • We advise that you keep your jewellery in the pouch it came in or alternatively in a zip lock plastic bag this reduces the risk of scratching as well as tarnishing.

  • To keep your jewelry clean we recommend that you gently rub the item with a lint free / soft micro-fiber cloth. Be very careful when cleaning chains and pieces with gems in and make sure it is completely dry before storing the jewelry again.

Fresh Water Cultured Pearl

Gold Philosophy pieces are freshwater cultured pearls, which is an organic gemstones that are

relative soft and vulnerable to acid, alkaline, extremes of humidity, and constant physical contact may scratch and shorten the lifespan of the pearl. Like any fine jewelry, cultured pearl jewelry requires careful handling, cleaning, and storage. Special care and knowledge is needed to preserve your pearls’ radiance.

  • Always remember that your Pearls should be the LAST THING YOU PUT ON when dressing and the FIRST THING YOU TAKE OFF when you get home. Avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray, or perfume. Always put on your jewelry as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair.

  • Jewelry should be removed before washing hands or working with chemicals and cleansers. When applying hand lotion, remove the ring first, and only replace it when hands are completely dry.

  • When removing a pearl ring, pull only on the metal portion; never pull the pearl itself.

  • The pearl's luster can also be harmed by perspiration. To prevent this, before returning your pearls to the jewelry box, wipe them gently with a soft cloth.
